2019 Fall 10×10 Capsule Wardrobe and Outfits

October 14, 2019

The other week I went joined in on another 10×10 style challenge where you make 10 outfits from 10 pieces.

Aptly named the #fauxfall10x10, this challenge celebrated the fact that fall weather can vary greatly depending on where you live. Most participants counted tops and bottoms in their count but let shoes, outerwear, and accessories flow in freely.

Conclusion

Not counting shoes and outerwear in the count made this the easiest challenge I’ve ever participated in. There were tons of options for outfits and I didn’t even wear all ten of my pieces (the blue sweater!).

Putting faux fall in the challenge’s title was also a good move. It made me feel less pressure to dress in the typical fall style, which made the outfits more “me” and more comfortable for the high temps we experienced here in California.

As always, the 10×10 reminded me how you only need a few items to put together tons of chic outfits. It pushed me to think of pieces differently like wearing a silk button-up as a cardigan in Outfit 8 and I was surprised to find myself wearing new combinations like Outfit 10 (how have I never worn that top and bottom together?!). I even tried the whole neck scarf trend in Outfit 6. Found out it wasn’t really my thing but I ended up dangling it from my back pocket and loved that.

This is all good motivation for me to (finally) let go of the clothes that have been sitting in a donation pile for months. I’m planning to give away a few things to friends and then will participate in Cuyana’s Lean Closet program with the hopes of getting some credit towards a future purchase.

P.S. Check out other 10×10 Challenges here and a look at my minimalist wardrobe.
