Anyone who likes a good Cabernet Sauvignon will love this little French baby. It packs punch but is still subtle enough that could sip on it all night long. Perfect for the holiday party season, right?

Though French red wines are usually pale in the glass, this one is opaque with a deep burgundy color. The nose is full of cherry, plum, and cola. There is also a hint of spice and chocolate.

The wine has an earthy, woodsy flavor that (thankfully) doesn’t overpower the taste of sweet fruits like blueberries and plums. It is on the drier side with the perfect dose of tannins and then finishes with a kick of spice and smokiness. It’s worth mentioning the taste isn’t super alcohol-forward, which is surprisingly nice because it’s on the high side at 13.5%.

Just like a good Cab, this Bordeaux would go well with a steak. Cook up a ribeye or filet mignon to go with some french fries and you’ve got yourself a pairing perfection. Call this meal steak frites if you want to be fancy and French. If seafood is more your thing, make sure it’s a fish cooked in a tomato or stock-based sauce.

In regards to vegetarian dishes, the wine goes well with umami-packed dishes like green bean casserole, parmesan roasted cauliflower, or soy-glazed shiitake mushrooms. It’s also a great pairing with harder cheeses like  Comté, Manchego, or a Basque cheese.

P.S. Here are more red wines from Trader Joe’s and some rosés if that is more your style.
