Wine is made to be enjoyed and what a joy it is when Trader Joe’s makes it easy. We picked up this bottle simply because it was placed at eye level in the French section and now we’re thanking the wine gods because it’s our new favorite!

Pour yourself a glass of this young Bordeaux and give it a little tilt to admire the deep burgundy color. Then, with a big inhale take in the sweet smell of something juicy, fruity, and fresh. Maybe it smells like sour cherries or perhaps the ripest strawberry you’ve ever had.

Taste-wise you’ll notice that it starts out with a mouthful of berries but quickly reveals a little bite that eventually rounds out with hint of oak and smoke. This isn’t one of those wimpy French wines that relies on delicateness but rather is a bold red that packs a nice punch.

A blend of 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Cabernet Franc, you can pair this wine with nearly anything. Do as the French do and serve it with steak and frites or a rotisserie chicken with a golden brown skin. It also goes well with earthier vegetables like mushrooms or a vegan lentil dish.

P.S. Another affordable red wine from France and a dinner party menu that would pair perfectly with this wine.
