Every once in a while life gets in a rut. You see the same people, eat the same things, and drink the same wines. It’s nice and all but sometimes you gotta shake it up. If you’re lucky, then you will make a new friend who will introduce you to a new wine (merci Marielle!).

Take a sniff of the dark ruby liquid and you’ll get the sweet tang of cranberry and pomegranate. There is a bit of oak on the nose (in a good way) and also a floral note that could be likened to lavender.

When tasting, this youthful wine has a surprisingly earthy depth. You’ll love the initial bite of tannin and hint of spice that rounds out into the pleasant taste of ripened plums.

Food-wise, this baby can hold it’s own against a large variety of dishes from burgers to lamb stews, braised beef, and roasted duck. You could also play on it’s spicy aspect and serve with Indian curries or spicy Thai noodles. Want to go traditional? Serve it with a Catalan dish such as chicken with picada or ollada (a hearty stew made of meat and vegetables).

P.S. More reviews of red wines here and another awesome red with a beautiful lady on the label.
